Postgraduate Students

Sinead O'Carroll

I am currently an Msc by Research Psychology student in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences here at the University of Edinburgh. I am particularly interested in infant vocalizations and gesture, and the role gesture plays in language development.

Sarah Hampton

I am a research assistant in the Department of Psychology at the University of Edinburgh. I'm currently working on a project looking at autism and bilingualism. This involves finding out about how multilingual families with a child with autism decide whether or not to raise their child to speak more than one language. Previously, I did a Master's degree in cognitive neuroscience at UCL, where I carried out research on creativity and autism. My interests include autism, language development, social cognition and philosophy of mind.

Jarek Lelonkiewicz

I'm a PhD Psychology student in the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. My interests include a bunch of different fields, including philosophy of science, some theoretical linguistics, as well as most of cognitive and social psychology. But above all I'm fascinated with language and the richness of human communicative behaviour.

Emma Healey

Emma is a PhD student in the department of Linguistics and English Language at the University of Edinburgh. Her research is on child language acquisiton and looks at factors involved in children's understanding and use of grammatical number.

George Starling

George is a first-year PhD student with an interest in the language acquisition, phonological structure and phonetic timing. He has previously studied at UCL, McGill and University of York. Mits Ota is his supervisor and his research concerns the development of speech timing in Japanese. Since the duration of speech sounds is used to distinguish between words in Japanese, factors such as speech rate and the relation between adult and child productions are important in considering children's language development.

Judit Fazekas

Judit is a psycholinguist, interested in how children learn words and expressions. After completing a Masters degree in Psychology of Language, she's currently working as a research assistant in an ESRC-funded project on baby-talk words.

Frantzy Acluche

I am currently a Master's student in the MSc of Human Cognitive Neuropsychology at the University of Edinburgh. I have a particular interest in understanding which developmental changes may be predictive of developmental disorders and psychiatric disorders. I am most keen to study reduction in adaptation skills resulting from impairment in the ability to make decisions, the ability to monitor our actions in order to learn from mistakes, and the ability to think logically.

Evanthi Kouklari

I am currently a Master's student in the MSc of Human Cognitive Neuropsychology at the University of Edinburgh. I'm particularly interested in Autistic Spectrum Disorders, developmental and cognitive psychology. I am completing a thesis focusing on the relationships between Executive Functions and Empathy in children with or without Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

Paula Fischer

I am currently a Master’s student in the MSc of Human Cognitive Neuropsychology at the University of Edinburgh. I am particularly interested in developmental neuroscience. I am completing a thesis focusing on the impact of social context on cognitive control and how it relates to creativity in early childhood, using an eye-tracking methodology.
